Skall letter No. 11
A moment with Ellen Hillingsø
Danish actresses Ellen Hillingsø is one of the most beautiful and talented women in Denmark. She is one of those admirable power women that inspire and speaks to modern women of all ages. She has a strong female voice and with her creativity and talent she always delivers the best version of herself whatever role she plays or situation she finds herself in.
On a still day in May, we meet Ellen in the middle of Copenhagen, hidden away behind buildings that are more than 100 years old, at the sophisticated and charming Hotel Sanders, where we sit and have a cup of tea and talk about motherhood.Motherhood seems to be an ongoing theme for us ever since we both had babies within a short time. Even though we did have some other topics in mind for our meeting with Ellen, still we end up talking about motherhood. We put the blame on our babies whom we both had with us that day and whom Ellen just embraced with a big hug when she arrived to meet us.
“Of course, we have to work and the little ones must just come along.”
It is clear that Ellen has been in the same situation as we are in now. Being a passionate actress and having her first child when she was 35 years old meant that her baby came with her while she was making a movie.
“My own mother was a great inspiration and she encouraged me to keep working after I gave birth to my first child. My mother took care of my baby while I was working, and I believe it’s a good thing to find the help when you need it. I love the quote; It takes a village to raise a child.”
And with the help from the village, Ellen managed to have two children while keeping her acting career in bloom. Being a mother is a fulltime job, but it is important to remember that everything is just a passage
“Don’t try to be perfect. Shocking pink toys are okay.”
We feel very grateful to have met Ellen, she inspires and motivates us in every way as women, mothers and professionals. Seeing her in Skall and in the beautiful surroundings at Hotel Sanders makes our hearts warm with joy.
